New Day

The biggest news around here is that Sparkle Jane, that wonderful 13-year old quilter, had hernia surgery yesterday.  This is her second hernia, the first being repaired when she was four.  Some of you may remember that she had heart surgery in January.  It sounds silly to say that she is a very healthy person, but she really is.  There are just these little things that need fixing.

It makes for a long day.  But, today is a new day.  The sky was beautiful this morning, reminding me of the value of fresh starts and also to count my blessings, which are many.

That is part of why Sparkle  hasn’t been posting much.  She has a lot of projects in the works, but she also has had a lot of distractions. Hopefully she will be back to quilting, cross stitch, crochet, ballet, school, swimming, chasing chickens…well, you get the idea…SOON!

ps–Last week we were at the doctors three different days. Once for Sparkle (surgery consultation) and twice with Young Son (dehydration that was masquerading as a cardiac issue–go get a drink!) and orthodontist consultation (braces in September). Nothing that can’t be fixed.  Just the realities of raising children.  They are my greatest treasure. In quilting news, I am building a block or so a day–just simple ones–and will have at least my monthly block report to share.

  1. Tell Sparkle Jane I hope she feels better soon, as a thirteen year old she has many things to keep her busy and I am sure she is anxious to get back to her regular activities. My little girl, not so little any more, had hernia sergury at six.

  2. So glad it went well! We’ve been having what I dubbed “The Summer of Crutches and Casts.” In May, I had a sprain bad enough to be non-weight-bearing for over two weeks, then boot and crutches until June when one of my daycare boys broke his femur and was in a cast (I offered to loan him my crutches but they were just a tiny too tall.) The same week he got off his last crutch, one of my daycare girls dropped off the monkey bars and broke both the bones in her forearm above the wrist. Her first setting didn’t take but they re-set and she’s in a hard cast now. Then, my 14 year-old daughter was on top of a pyramid of girls at a party and (being slight) was on the top. You guessed it, she fell off backwards, landed on a sprinkler head and they think she either bruised or broke her tailbone! What a summer! But, as you say, today is a new day and God’s mercies are new every morning!

  3. Hi Deanna, Life is like that at times . Last year when my dad was so ill, we had all sorts of appointments. there were even days with appointments at both hospitals, different specialists at each or for both parents. Keep the humour and you’ll manage.

  4. Lots going on with life in your neck of the woods. Hoping for quick healing, plenty of fluids -and I recommend lots of ‘fiber’ of the fabric variety!!! 🙂

  5. with each new day comes fresh hope is my life’s motto…..

kids…..they sure are the best treasures that we have. they are such a gift from God, and cant imagine my life and who i would be if i hadnt had them to help me become who God wants me to be. they have taught me just as much, if not more, than i have ever taught them.

my greatest plans for my new day are to get out in that garage and do some long arm quilting as i am FINALLY going to PRACTICE doing feathers! i am giving myself that all important pep talk that it is OK for me to have a learning curve……i have tried them a few times but was not happy with them so gave up. i hate to practice anything, i just want to do it well right out of the gate–and usually do, but not so with feathers so far. a very humbling experience for me ;o)

  6. I know that family life is private, but if you would let us know, those of us who pray could lift you up.
My youngest had a double hernia repair at six weeks. A mother’s heart is always full …of something!
Husband and I have spent the last 4 days cleaning to be ready for company. Hard work! And finding new places to hurt and ache! If getting old was on the ballot, I sure wouldn’t vote for it!

  7. first take care of yourself..we want the children to have someone to take care of them…and I am glad to know they are doing well now after the surgery, doctor and dentist visits..children are a joy but sometimes a worry but we wouldn’t have it any other way…this has been a big year for me as a grandma…so many things have happened..my only grand daughter was married early in the year, moved from NC to CA and is now expecting my first great grandchild…my middle grandson and his wife to be graduated from college and found jobs teaching in KS and oh yes had a beautiful outdoor wedding in may (first time I ever got a sunburn at a wedding..)..the other 3 grands are doing good as is my daughter the mother of all these children..so many blessings as I know you have too..

  8. Best thoughts for you and the kids. Glad to hear they are on the mend. ‘go get a drink!’, I love that. Teenage boys, I remember those years well.
