Denim #5

This denim quilt, made from my father’s old work jeans, is for Young Son.  Again, the inspiration comes from the book “All About Strips” by Susan Guzman.

The sashing is composed of 2-1/2″ squares, rather than strips.  I like the scrappy look and am going to use a similar technique on the quilt planned for Daughter.

Can you tell I am really enjoying having more time to sew this summer?!  It isn’t QUITE all that I do, but sewing is happening every day.

  1. I love your quilt. I often wonder how mixing cottons with denim works out, with the denim being thicker than the cotton, especially in a quilt?

    1. I had wondered about mixing fabric myself, but so far so good. We’ll see what happens once they are quilted. My opinion at this point is that it works well and is much easier than handling multiple layers of denim.

  2. A really good idea for my husband old jeans. I’ve seen a lot of jean quilts, but I like this one the best. Thanks for the idea. Now I have to remember where I put them.

    1. Wow! I am not sure. Since the pattern calls for nearly 3-1/2 yards background, that would work out to about 800-850 squares. I am going to make another one and I’ll try to count more closely. I hope this helps. Keep me posted on your progress.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. It is nice to hear from you.
