Candy Diamond Quilt COMPLETE

Made out of fabric donated a few years ago, I believe by Stephanie. THIS PICTURE sparked the idea that finally pushed the fabric pieces to quilt status.

There was enough matching fabric included for back and binding.

It will likely be donated to the Children’s Hospital.

I used 2-1/2″ squares so this one finishes at 38″ square.

Welcome Home Again

This is the third Welcome Home top finished for donation.

They are quick and each–all 2-1/2″ strips and only 48 blocks. You can get all the details HERE: TUTORIAL: Welcome Home Quilt Block – Wedding Dress Blue (wordpress.com)

I like the scrappy happy look, but it is easy to see a more controlled color scheme could be used for wedding quilts, quilts of valor or just about any occasion.

Pushing towards a finish soon.

Not My Style, And That’s The Point

Sometimes I am given scraps, or even a partially finished quilt, that just isn’t my style. But, it is an opportunity.

It pushes my creativity, design skills and problem solving abilities. It makes me a beginner again. It makes me learn.

Sometimes a not-my-style quilt is just what I need.

ps–Judy asks a good question: What was I actually given? AGAIN, I didn’t take a picture of the starting point. But, there were a few pinwheels finished, with a dark purple strip sewn to one side. There were several sets of squares (light purple and background) sewn together all the way around, ready to cut on the diagonal, trim and sew together into pinwheels. There was extra yardage of both purple fabrics. And a few odds and ends of both colors.

Donation Quilt Finished

My annual Children’s Hospital donation quilt is complete.

THIS TUTORIAL was a good starting point.  I added more to make it a nice throw size.

This was, I think, my third attempt at freemotion quilting.  Some parts of it are better than others, but one must start somewhere.

The front and the back go together well and the back gave inspiration for the quilting motifs.

It will be part of the Festival of Trees fundraiser during the holidays.
