Changes Bring Changes

Young Son, age 20,  has moved out of the house and into an apartment with a roommate friend from high school.  This is a good thing for him.

And, it created an empty room in our house.

So, the furniture that made my sewing space also the guest bedroom is now in that room.

And I finished this quilt to grace the bed.

It is based on the Splendid Sampler quiltalong last year.  Finished size:  78″ x 66″.

Of course, moving all that furniture that created opportunities in the sewing space that include new storage shelves and my first-ever cutting table.  Yep, in all these years I have cut on the kitchen table, the coffee table, the washing machine and the floor.

Soon I will be ready to share pictures of the new sewing space.  Right now it is a mess, and I am still sorting, but it promises to be really nice.

Sampler Top With Borders

YAY!  All of your good advice paid off…I knew I was asking the right people.

Here is my Sort-Of-Splendid-Sampler top finished.  It is amazing to me what a difference the borders made in this case.  It is even more obvious when you look at the “before” and “after” pictures side by side.

Even though the colors and prints aren’t what I normally choose, I really love the finish.  And the size is better, too:  65″ x 77″.

Over the past year many of my quilts have been out of my former comfort zone–either the pattern or the colors or something.  But, you know what, I am feeling more energized and interested in quilting than ever.  Hmmm…maybe they have something to do with each other. 🙂

Too Tired

This is what happens when you are too tired to sew but really need to sew because it has been days.

Oh, well.  I haven’t torn it out yet and might not.  Even as-is it appeals to me more than the seam ripper does right now. 🙂

This is block 50 of the Splendid Sampler sew along.  I am only making the pieced blocks that I really like, but I am making two of each to insure I have enough for a good sized quilt in the end.

I’ll try the next one, Block 53, when I am alert and focused and see if the results are more consistent.
