Seventeen

At first seventeen quilts didn’t seem like much.  Then, for a while, it felt nearly impossible.

Now, it just feels finished.

Seventeen quilts 48″ x 60″ is 340 square feet of quilt.  Many apartments are smaller than that.

Seventeen quilts is 3672 inches of binding.  My binding stitches are about 5/16″.  Seventeen quilts is about 11750 stitches.

Seventeen quilts is nearly 40 yards of backing fabric, if it were standard width.  I purchased 108-wide backing.  Seventeen quilts used the whole bolt.

Seventeen quilts.  I will probably never do it again.  But, I am glad I did it once.

ps–More pictures after delivery to the owner.  Probably the post will be ready next weekend.

  1. my stars!!!! I cannot even imagine such a thing..sure I’ve made many more than 17 quilts but not with a deadline for them all!!! what a project…it is hard for me to comprehend..i am so glad you got them finished and am anxious to see them…you are a good person!!!!

  2. I’m new to your blog, so I don’t know how long you’ve been working on this, but WOW !!! I haven’t completed one just yet, although I have several close and mine are all for me 🙂 Congratulations, you will surely be blessed 🙂

  3. Hopefully all these quilts are going to people who will appreciate and cherish all the blood, sweat, and stress that go into making all these quilts, because then, it will all have been worth it. I know, I’m impressed and would love to have finished that many, but not this year! God knows I have more than enough fabric to do about 100 quilts or more, and hope to live long enough to complete them all. Merry Christmas.

  4. I am impressed with your quilting skills and stamina. That is quite an accomplishment! I could never do it or even think I could.

  5. I can’t remember why or for whom you made all these quilts. I hope you’ll repeat that information when you post the pics. It’s an amazing accomplishment. I know you must feel very happy and relieved. And possibly ready to start on something all together different? Congratulations on a job well done!

  6. Im SO impressed, but knew you’d accomplish your goal!! Awesome job!! Im sure every recipient will be so happy!! Hope you and your loved ones have a Wonderful Christmas!! ❤

  7. I thought you taught English, not math. That is certainly a lot of math. Seriously, you did a mighty job with this accomplishment. You did what you set out to do. They will certainly be appreciated by their new owners in memory of their loved one. Congrats.

    1. I do teach English now, but I taught math for seven years as a tutor. Sometimes I think it would be good to be a math teacher again, but my degree is most closely related to English, so that is what I am certified in (nearly, just finishing paperwork). I might go back for math certification in a few years. In the meantime, quilting (and helping my children with their homework–let’s go factor a few polynomials) keeps my brain happy).
